April was filled with events for me. I took trips to London and Scotland, said my goodbyes to Sheffield, and pushed in some last-minute fun with friends. This is my Document Your Life video for April 2019.
This video took ages to edit. It is by far one of the longest videos I’ve produced in a while, so it felt like a completely new challenge. Originally I was sat with 20 minutes of rough material. It took about three edits to cut it down to the humble 5-minute length it is now. Can you taste the blood, sweat and tears? I can!
Because there were so many major things going on for me in April, I wanted to explain these to you in detail. Read more about it below!
As visible in the previous video, my friend Saïda and I started a “secret” little project. In the end it turned out not be so little at all: it took us weeks to finish! The end result: a 10-minute McFly medley.
The video wasn’t published for the main public because it is purely a personal project. That does not mean I am not proud of it! We worked really hard on it and had massive fun. I will always savour this as a fond memory and time well-spent with my friend.
In April I set out on a fairly spontaneous trip to London. That is to say, I only booked about two weeks in advance. A huge impulsive decision in my case!
In London I met up with internet friends Jeffrey and Jeremy, who had come over from the US for a holiday. I also got to spend quality time with one of my long-time best friends Andre. All in all, a good weekend.
My Scotland trip was the first journey ever I made on my own. It is also what contributed to this video being so long, and you can’t even see how much I’ve cut out. You can read more about this trip here!
Another large part of this video is dedicated to my leaving Sheffield. It was my last chance to do some city exploring, like a final tour of Park Hill flats and a mandatory visit to Kelham Island Museum.
Fortunately I got to say my goodbyes without any tears, partially due to the fact that I had a friend to accompany me. Blogger Nele visited me in Sheffield, so I got to give her the full tour. We both wrote about it on our blogs:
At the end of my stay in Sheffield, I planned a small gathering with friends in one of my favourite pubs. It was a lovely afternoon with lots of laughter and pitiful darts strategies. I miss it already!
The flight home
On the very last day of April I flew back to the Netherlands, after living in England for nearly 3 years. At the end of this video you watch me come home to friends and family. The trip itself and my first week back were stressful – I wrote all about it here. I also plan to do a further update on post-expat life sometime soon.
Big thanks to Lauren for filming my arrival at the airport and also welcoming me with open arms!
Music behind the video
The song I used for this video is called Pais Nublado by Helado Negro.
