Ah, she’s at it again! I have tried blogging and even vlogging before, but nothing stuck to my routine long enough and with both I eventually somehow lost interest. Lately the idea of a blog, where I can collectively showcase my creative products, had been playing on my mind again though. I look forward to spending my time with this blog, with myself, and most of all: with you. So let’s give it a go!
Who am I?
A larger-than-life question, I know. But here is the short answer: I am Laura, a 23 year old Dutch girl currently residing in the UK. In 2016 I embarked on an exciting journey to Sheffield, England, where I started a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics with TESOL. Before that, I studied Teaching English in Secondary and Vocational Education in The Netherlands for four years. I have many interests and hobbies keeping my mind occupied – which brings me to the next section…
What will I share on this blog?
As my mental health is improving I’ve found that I have more time in a day, so my new goal is to add more productivity to my week. I have chosen blogging as my tool for this. It will allow me to share most areas of my creative work (photography, video), but also explore other topics of interest to me with the outside world – all on my own schedule and at my own pace.
Before starting this blog, I sat down and created a mind map with my main interests on it. As you can see below (but perhaps not read very well), my topics of interest include: creativity, entertainment, lifestyle, and mental health. Those are categories you may expect to see on my blog in the future. More specifically, I’d like to write about living abroad. However, I also wish to share personal stories, thoughts, and interests – so don’t be surprised if something a bit more random comes your way. This is very much a personal blog.
How did I come up with the name?
While I was jotting down everything possibly related to me in a brainstorm session – names, nicknames, hobbies, favourites, etc. – my eye fell on one of Mumford & Sons’ first hits Little Lion Man. This was the song that led to my love for the band.
With my voluminous long blonde hair falling down both sides of my face, I often thought they looked like lion manes (note: this was before I cut my hair). I also happen to be a Leo. This is how I came up with the name Little Lion Girl. Unfortunately, this name was already taken (by a deactivated blog, grrr), so I went with Little Lion Laura instead.
